Opinion No. 15-1481

March 27, 1915

BY: FRANK W. CLANCY, Attorney General

TO: Honorable Ralph C. Ely, Receiver, New Mexico Central Railroad Co., Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Counties can expend money in putting a farm demonstrator at work.

OPINION

{*64} I have your letter of yesterday asking, in substance, whether the commissioners of Torrance County can expend the county money in co-operation with the state in putting a farm demonstrator at work in that county.

I agree with you that it is quite within the power of the commissioners to make the necessary appropriation from county money, as I believe that it is one of those matters intended to be provided for by the fifth sub-division of Section 664 of the Compiled Laws of 1897, where the commissioners are given the management of the interests of the county in all cases where no other provision is made by law.

You are being directed to the most recent version of the statute which may not be the version considered at the time of the judgment.
