Opinion No. 21-2971

May 14, 1921

BY: A. M. EDWARDS, Assistant Attorney General

TO: Mr. Thomas P. Gable, State Game and Fish Warden, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

No License Necessary to Hunt Predatory Animals.

OPINION

{*57} In answer to your letter of May 10th, we may say that as we understand the law, the Game Commission has no authority to require persons to secure a license to hunt predatory animals.

We do not believe that the Game Commission has authority to make rules and regulations in regard to hunting predatory animals with dogs, unless such hunting would cause some injury to game animals.

The jurisdiction of the Game Commission is restricted to the control of game animals as defined in Chapter 133 of the Laws of 1919.

You are being directed to the most recent version of the statute which may not be the version considered at the time of the judgment.
