Opinion No. [30-11]

January 27, 1930

BY: E. C. WARFEL, Assistant Attorney General

TO: Mr. Ignacio Aragon y Garcia, Sheriff of Valencia County, Los Lunas, New Mexico.

COUNTY OFFICERS -- Payment of deputy sheriff.

OPINION

Your letter of the 24th inst. in reference to the employment of a deputy sheriff is duly received.

In reply thereto shall state that under the provisions of section 2 of chapter 99 of the Laws of 1929, I can see no reason why the entire amount allowed for deputy hire may not be paid to one deputy.

The purpose of the law appears to be to get the work done in an efficient manner and allows that amount of money for that purpose and it doesn't make any difference whether it takes two to do it or only one.

You are being directed to the most recent version of the statute which may not be the version considered at the time of the judgment.
